A WOMAN has revealed that she is taking her children out of school for six weeks before summer.

Posting on social media, Abbie explained that their children will be missing school for almost two months so that the four of them can spend some quality time together while Callum – a midfielder for Carlisle United – has his summer break from football.

In a clip shared online, Abbie explained: “So we are taking our children out of school for six weeks.

“For a bit of a backstory, we are taking our children out of school for six weeks for three holidays and our wedding.”

Abbie then questioned whether the couple got their “karma” for taking their kids from school, as whilst they were waiting in the airport, there was a “huge blackout”, meaning their flight was delayed.

The family then got delayed on the tarmac for three hours, as Abbie added: “We all had to have our bags searched which was actually really scary.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @abbieguy, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 310,600 views.

And it’s quickly created a huge decision online – leaving parents totally divided.

Social media users were stunned that the couple were taking their children out of school for so long, and many took to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person said: “A week or two is fair but six??”

Another added: “Sounds irresponsible.”

A third commented: “Is 13 weeks holiday a year not good enough?”

To this, Abbie snapped back and wrote: “Not when my husband’s career doesn’t allow us to book time off throughout the year.

“We get a certain time of year we can go, which happens to be in school time.

“The season starts mid august but the pre season starts at the end of June.”

At the same time, someone else wrote: “Six weeks is a whole term.”

Our school know and are ok for Ava to return

In response, Abbie shared: “I know, this won’t be every year. It was a special occasion as we were getting married.”

Clapping back to the haters, Abbie also explained: “We have brought lots of work away with us.

“We spoke to them before even enrolling our children and let them know that due to my husband’s job it’s something we had to do during term time.

“Our school know and are ok for Ava to return.”

However, many other parents could understand Abbie and Callum’s decision.

One mother wrote: “When they are in younger primary school years I think this is absolutely fine.

Go enjoy yourself, don’t worry about everything else

“Enjoy yourself and make memories! I wish I’d done this more!”

A second chimed in: “What are they seriously missing? Potato painting? Travelling is a great experience for them.”

What school fines can parents receive?

THE main issue that can lead to parents receiving a fine is missing school.

Currently, it’s the decision of the local council whether or not to issue a parent a fine for their child missing school.

However, from August this year, the fine for absences will up to the school to consider – when a child has missed 10 or more sessions for unauthorised reasons.

And the fine will be £80 if paid within 21 days, or £160 if paid within 28 days – this is issued to EACH parent.

It’s the first time the fine has been increased since 2012, and is in line with inflation.

If a parent receives a second fine for the same child within three years, this will automatically be charged at the higher rate of £160.

Fines will be capped at two fines within a three-year period.

After this limit has been reached, prosecution or a parenting order may be considered.

According to the official government website, there are only five reasons your child should be absent from school if the school is open.

These are as follows:

  1. Your child is too ill to attend that day
  2. You have asked in advance and been given permission by the school for your child to be absent on that day due to exceptional circumstances
  3. Your child cannot attend school on that day because it is a day you are taking part in religious observance
  4. Your local authority is responsible for arranging your child’s transport to school and it is not available on that day or has not been provided yet
  5. You are a gypsy/traveller family with no fixed abode, and you are required to travel for work that day meaning your child cannot attend their usual school

Another advised: “Go enjoy yourself, don’t worry about everything else!”

Whilst someone else claimed: “Honestly missing primary school doesn’t matter that much, it’s just when they are 12-16ish you should keep them at school.”

To this, Abbie replied: “I agree!”
