A COUPLE have revealed how they quit the rat race to live in a van for three years – and they now have upgraded to a school bus.
Gene and Shay, and their two cats, uploaded a video sharing why they were done with “van life” and wanted something roomier for being on the road.

Three years ago they initially fell in love with their van and decided to quit paying rent to have some adventures travelling on the road.
Although they love the lifestyle – they decided it was time for an upgrade.
On their @geneandshay account, they wrote: “Why we quit van life and moved into a school bus.
“Here are seven reasons why we upgraded to a school bus after three years of living in a van.
“Number one is height and headspace.
“Gene can just barely stand up straight in the van but our bus clocks in at 6ft5 leaving even extra room for activities.”
The second reason they prefer a school bus over a van is being able to have a fixed bed, as they used to have a convertible bed.
Shay added that the third incentive was having more room for their two cats, who join them on the road.
She said: “We’re building in areas specifically for them and so they can separate.”
The fourth and fifth reason is they now have extra storage space for clothes – and also for supplies.
Shay joked: “In the bus I have a full sized closet, enough room for all my clothes and maybe a drawer for Gene.”
The sixth reason is having a fixed work area, so they can more easily earn money from the road, with Shay working as a virtual assistant and Gene is a drummer for gigs.
Shay continued: “After three years of hitting my head and working in bed, it’s finally time for me to have an actual desk in the bus.”
Being in a tiny space as a couple for months on end can understandably have its challenges at times.
Shay added that the bus allows her “a little bit of space away from each other.”
She said: “After three years of living within 50 square metres of one another, we’re ready to both be in the same home without being on top of one another.”
Their video has racked up over 18,000 likes, and many people were impressed.
One said: “I want this to be my life.”
Another added: “Love watching your journey.”
